SME Recognizes Leaders in Composites Manufacturing at AeroDef 2017

Dimitrije Milovich and Radius Engineering receive industry awards for their longtime contributions

(FORT WORTH, Texas, March 9, 2017) ― SME, a nonprofit organization that supports the manufacturing industry, along with its Composites Manufacturing Tech Group recognized an industry leader and a prominent composites manufacturing company with this year’s 2017 Composites Manufacturing Awards.

Composites combine different materials that work together to form, stronger, lighter or more durable new materials. Composites remain an important component of advanced aerospace manufacturing and have been applied to the automotive industry, appliances and consumer goods of every type.

“Remarkable people created the composites industry, and through research and innovation, remarkable people and organizations elevate that work,” said Louis C. “Lou” Dorworth, co-chair of SME’s Composites Manufacturing Tech Group, and manager, Direct Services Division for Abaris Training Resources Inc. “We’re proud to recognize the highest achievers; the true leaders of our industry.”

2017 J.H. “Jud” Hall Award

First awarded in 1986, the J.H. “Jud” Hall Award celebrates individuals for innovation and achievement.

Dimitrije Milovich, president and CEO of Radius Engineering, and a composites manufacturing leader for over 40 years, is the recipient of the 2017 J.H. “Jud” Hall Composites Manufacturing Award. Recognized for his overall leadership and the success of his co-founded company, Radius Engineering, Milovich’s continued innovations in composites manufacturing, particularly with net-shape, out-of-autoclave manufacturing processes, are used by major aircraft manufacturers.

2017 Excellence in Composites Manufacturing Award (Small Company)

Radius Engineering Inc. was recognized with the 2017 Excellence in Composites Manufacturing Award for supplying net-shape manufacturing technology and equipment contributing to improvements in design, quality and reduced manufacturing costs for numerous manufacturing companies throughout the aerospace composites industry.

Honorees received their awards during SME’s AeroDef Manufacturing event on March 8 in Fort Worth, Texas.
