Depending on the drilling process, ADU’s look like a suitable solution for many cases such as program startup with low investment. This presentation covers an aircraft stack drilling of CFRP, Ti6AL4V, Cres and Aluminum 7075 with a target of one-shot process. The first step was to optimize the drill raw material choice, design and coating to drill the whole stack without issues related to hole quality. The second step was cutting data definition for the ADU. A special designed drill was produced to conduct trials while determining the optimum cutting conditions for the selected stacked materials. Process and tool wear study was performed by drilling 60 holes.
