Recent advances in Automated Fiber Placement and Automated Tape Laying have included the ability to dock delivery heads and the ability to switch back and forth between them. This provides another level of flexibility in manufacturing parts. Large parts with one complex feature no longer require use of narrow tapes for the whole part. Wide tape and narrow tape can be used concurrently on the same part, providing synergies in labor and material costs.
