Dr. Niaz Latif is the dean of the College of Technology at Purdue University Northwest (PNW). He is also the executive director of the Commercialization and Manufacturing Excellence Center (CMEC) at PNW. During his tenure at PNW, he served for two years as the dean of the graduate school and an additional two years as the interim associate vice chancellor for research and graduate studies. Dr. Latif’s academic career began as an instructor of engineering at Louisiana State University-Eunice and then he served as an assistant and associate professor at Northern Kentucky University. In 1999, he was appointed as the professor and head of the Department of Industrial Technology at Purdue University, West Lafayette and later served as an assistant dean for statewide technology administration. In 2007, he joined Purdue University Northwest as dean of the College of Technology.
Dr. Latif is responsible for overseeing seven undergraduate programs and two graduate programs housed in three academic departments in the College of Technology. Under his leadership, new academic programs have been developed at the baccalaureate and masters levels, faculty participation in scholarly work has significantly increased, and all bachelor of science programs in the College of Technology have been fully-accredited by external accrediting agencies. Dr. Latif has received a number of prestigious honors including the Purdue University Northwest’s Outstanding Administrative Leader Award in 2012, recognition as a Distinguished Alumni from South Dakota State University in 2015. In addition, Dr. Latif has received several federal grants for workforce development, including grants from the U.S. Department of Labor and the National Science Foundation.
Dr. Latif is a member of SME, is a member of the SME Accreditation Committee, and represents SME as a commissioner at the Applied Science Accreditation Commission under ABET. In addition, he is also an SME program evaluator for the manufacturing engineering technology program. Dr. Latif has authored and co-authored numerous refereed journal articles and peer reviewed conference proceedings articles. He serves on the Engineering Technology Division Board for the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He is a fellow of the Academic Leadership Program under the Committee on Institutional Cooperation of big 10 Universities.
