Metal Systems Applications Engineer
EOS North America
Spencer Thompson has been in the additive manufacturing industry for more than five years. He started as a finisher of stereolithography parts for service provider Fineline Prototyping while pursuing his industrial systems engineering undergraduate degree from NC State. He then moved to build preparation technician at Fineline where he generated support structure and analyzed parts for building.
Spencer was brought on as an RA for the Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics at NC State, a material development focused research group. He ran and maintained a wide variety of AM equipment while participating in a range of industry projects. With the Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering Institute, Spencer developed and completed the first AM master’s program at North Carolina State. As he pursued this industry-focused degree, he worked for EOS GmbH in Krailling, Germany, completing a project in collaboration with Kennemetal Extrude Hone, investigating abrasive flow machining of AM parts.
Spencer currently works for EOS North America as part of the Additive Minds team, enabling customers in the successful adoption of AM through hands on training, application development and consulting.
